Should Act 1, Scene 1 be Cut?

    This topic follows from the H2016 blog post in which I explain my rationale for cutting the first scene from my production of Hamlet. If you haven’t read that post yet, pop on over, then come back here and tell me what you think!

    Specifically, I’m hoping you can offer up some opinions about one or more of the following questions:

    1. Am I wrong to cut 1.1?
    2. Is it a sound philosophy to “defamiliarize” audiences by scrambling and cutting a classic? Or am I just going to annoy the purists?
    3. What do you think a dumbshow/pantomime/prelude to Hamlet should contain?
